CFO Roundtable: Formalizing the financial function

By Trish Reilly

The Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Regional Chamber is working with Ann Arbor SPARK to revive the CFO Roundtable.

The CFO Roundtable is targeted at top financial executives in small to mid-sized area businesses. The intent of this program is to provide networking opportunities, short educational briefings and opportunities for individuals to share ideas and ask questions within a peer group. The educational portion of the program will be focusing on best practices and other issues relevant to the CFO position such as taxes and financing.

There have been continuous requests to bring back this free series with relevant speakers. The speakers for this first session will be James Herman, Tolera Therapeutics, and Bob Moore, Gilbert Residence.

A brief introduction and background of each panelist will be given. The points for discussion will include: • At what stage in a business life cycle is a finance position necessary? • Why not just maintain a bookkeeper/accountant?, • Aren't finance roles/CFOs for high-growth, venture-backed businesses? • I have a bricks and mortar, retail or service business. Why incur the extra cost of hiring a CFO?

The first meeting will be from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at SPARK Central, 330 E. Liberty, lower level, Ann Arbor.
