The Borders bookstore on Lohr Road in Pittsfield Township will close for good on Thursday, just trailing today's closure of the flagship store in downtown Ann Arbor.

The Pittsfield Township Borders store, located in the Waters Place Shopping Center, is one of 399 stores Borders Group Inc. is closing as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy liquidation.

DJM Realty, a unit of Borders asset liquidator Gordon Brothers Group LLC, announced last week that no bids were placed on either of these Washtenaw County Borders leases, meaning that it is up to the owners of the buildings to secure new tenants.

Tom Goldberg, an owner of Waters Place, said that he has received “a number of serious inquiries” for the 28,500-square-foot Lohr Road property.

“We hope to have a new tenant in place soon,” Goldberg wrote in an email. “Dick's Sporting Goods will open in October so we remain very optimistic about Waters Place.”

Michael Lippitt of Landmark Commercial Services, a listing agent for the downtown store, said he has a potential tenant secured for the 42,000-square-foot store on Liberty and Maynard streets.

“We have received a legitimate letter of intent that we are reviewing,” he said last week. “I hope we can announce it soon.”
