Barre Bee Fit is joining the student entrepreneur incubator, TechArb, a media company and an accounting firm in the basement of the building at 510 E. Washington St., a development generally remembered as Tally Hall and the one-time headquarters for Borders.

The workout studio is set to open Aug. 1 in a 2,200-square-foot space in the building. There are two other Barre Bee Fit locations in Chicago.
Adrianne Madias, owner of the Ann Arbor location, said that Barre Bee Fit classes “target problem areas for women” in a 60-minute exercise class that utilizes a ballet barre.
“It is mainly targeted towards women by working abs, arms, seat and thighs,” Madias said. “There are some bursts of cardio, the music is upbeat and it’s a fun atmosphere for women of any ages.”
Madias said she liked the location in The Offices at Liberty Square because she can market towards both downtown professionals and the student population.
“I wanted to be in-between Main Street and South University,” Madias said. “I think it’s a good area for women who work downtown, and also students.”

The Offices at Liberty Square is two floors of office space owned by McKinley Inc., and is located in the same building as the Liberty Square parking structure. The University of Michigan English Language Institute occupies the first floor of the building.
Although part of The Offices at Liberty Square sat vacant for several years after Borders relocated, McKinley Inc. purchased the space in 2007 and has since redeveloped it for retail, said Tom Gritter, McKinley Inc.’s vice president and managing director of commercial real estate.
TechArb, a group of U-M student startups, signed a deal to occupy 3,200 square feet in the building in June, relocating the incubator from the fourth floor of the McKinley Towne Centre.
The TechArb space is currently under construction and Gritter said it should be completed in August.
With TechArb, Barre Bee Fit, a media company and an accounting firm occupying the space, there is still 15,000 square feet available, said Gritter.
He said he’s confident that the space won’t remain vacant for long because McKinley Inc. has created an “entrepreneurial hub” in The Offices at Liberty Square.
“We helped turn the block around and people want to go down there again,” Gritter said. “We’re going to have the most dynamic companies that the state is producing right there.”

I hoped that Tally Hall would b an entertainment hub, especially as a child-I had dreams that it would hold fun opportunities... A media company and an accounting firm-yaaaay! :-( I had tons of ideas for that space-how do ppl get funding 4 new start-ups in A2? It's so expensive... Anyway, congrats to Barre Bee Fit, I like the idea.
