The most serious Black Friday holiday shoppers - bargain seekers who line up at big box stores before dawn - typically track down the best deals almost immediately.

The impact in Ann Arbor is already evident this morning. At 6:34 a.m. at the Meijer on Ann Arbor-Saline Road, an associate announced to shoppers that the store had sold out of the iPod Touch. Meijer advertised that shoppers who bought the $199 iPod Touch would get a $50 Meijer gift card.

At Kohl's, similar problems emerged. Ypsilanti resident Elisa Schulz said she got to Kohl's at 5 a.m. but the store had already sold out of a comforter she wanted. The store was also out of a specific size of a leather jacket she wants to buy for her husband.

Retail experts expect depleted inventories to be common this holiday season as stores intentionally cut back on inventory to avoid being overstocked once the holiday season is over.
